ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday visited Muzaffarabad and reviewed the latest situation after heavy snowfall and an avalanche in Neelum Valley.
The prime minister paid a visit to Combined Military Hospital and inquired about the health of those injured undergoing treatment. Chief Secretary AJK briefed the prime minister regarding damages incurred due to snowfall and avalanches and the relief and rescue efforts.
The prime minister directed the hospital administration to provide better medical facilities to the injured and also arrange medical teams in the affected areas.
Chief Secretary Azad Kashmir Mathar Niaz Rana said that rescue and relief activities are continuing in the rain and snow-hit areas of AJK. He said four helicopters took part in rescue and relief operations and the injured were shifted to Kail Sharda and Muzaffarabad.
He informed the prime minister that work on reopening of roads in the affected areas is underway on war footings while food and other necessary items have been provided to the affectees.
The Chief Secretary further informed that Rs150,000 would be paid to the heirs of the deceased, Rs75,000 to the handicapped, while Rs50,000 will be given to those injured in the incident. Besides, Rs100,000 will be paid for the damaged house and vehicle, while Rs50,000 for the damaged shop under first phase.
President AJK Sardar Masood Khan, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur, Speaker Legislative Assembly, Corps Commander Rawalpindi, GOC Murree and other high ranking civil and military officers were also present in the briefing.
