The Punjab government has decided to transform 1,200 villages across the province into ‘Model Villages’ under the Suthra Punjab and Waste to Value initiatives, according to media reports on Saturday.
A special meeting was convened in this regard, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. During the meeting, the Chief Minister received a detailed briefing on the Model Villages, Suthra Punjab, and Waste to Value projects.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of the plan to upgrade these 1,200 villages. Under this project, each model village will be equipped with a 24/7 water supply, a comprehensive sewage system, and a waste management treatment plant.
Additionally, the development of these villages will include paved streets, road rehabilitation, children’s parks, and extensive tree plantation to enhance the living environment.
Houses will be numbered, and signboards will also be installed in the model villages.
A briefing was also given on the solar system-powered water supply model and sewage system for the model villages.
It was briefed that development projects in 130 villages of the pilot phase under the model village project of Punjab have been completed.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif called for a deadline for the earliest completion of the model village project.
