Rainfall has begun this morning in Karachi, with reports of light to moderate rain coming from Defence, Qayyumabad, Mehmoodabad, and eastern areas such as Malir Model Colony and surroundings.
According to details, the process of cloud formation is continuing rapidly in the south and east of the city, and in the coming hours, this system is expected to spread to most areas of Karachi.
At present, a powerful monsoon system is affecting various parts of Sindh, whose center is a low-pressure system over the Indian state of Kutch.
In the next 12 to 18 hours, this system is expected to move in a northwesterly direction, which will affect Karachi as well as Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Hyderabad, and Larkana.
The Meteorological Department has warned that these areas could experience light, moderate, and in some places heavy rain with thunder and lightning.
At present, around 200 kilometers south of Karachi in the Arabian Sea, there is a dense cluster of clouds which could further intensify the rainfall in the next few hours. Rain has already started in several areas including DHA Phase 2 Extension, and the weather has become pleasant.
According to experts, the circulation present over the Gujarat and Kutch region is rapidly strengthening, due to which the spread of rain-bearing clouds could become limited, but their intensity is expected to increase.
If this system remains active, an increase in the duration and intensity of rain in Karachi is possible. The next 12 hours are considered very important to understand the direction and effects of this system.
In the opinion of experts, if the clouds present in the southern areas of the city continue to move towards the interior of the city, Karachi could experience a good spell of rain in the next 24 to 36 hours.
