The Sindh government has announced a ban on pillion riding across the province on the 9th and 10th of Muharram as part of security measures. A formal notification regarding the restriction has been issued.
The provincial government has also imposed Section 144 throughout Sindh from the 1st of Muharram. This prohibits public gatherings and processions without prior approval. A notification outlining the enforcement of Section 144 has also been released.
Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet in Quetta on Thursday, June 26, to determine the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram crescent.
The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman. Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees will hold parallel meetings at their respective locations to assess the moon sighting.
According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the crescent of Muharram 1447 AH is expected to be visible on the evening of June 26, with the Islamic New Year beginning on June 27.
The Ashura day (10th Muharram) is likely to fall on July 6. SUPARCO noted that the moon will be born on June 25 at 3:32 PM, with an estimated visibility window of 75 minutes after sunset along coastal regions.
