The Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider has responded to the private institution’s prediction of a major earthquake in Karachi, as reported by national media on Wednesday.
Yesterday, during a press conference at the National Press Club Islamabad, CEO of the Earthquake News and Research Center, Muhammad Shehbaz Laghari, warned that the recent earthquakes in Karachi should not be ignored.
He stated that stronger earthquakes could occur between Thursday night and Saturday night. However, he added that smaller quakes reduce the likelihood of a major earthquake.
In response to the prediction of a major earthquake in Karachi, Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider said that there is currently no technology in the world to predict earthquakes. Even in a developed country like Japan, an ordinary person cannot make such a prediction.
Amir Haider stated that historically, earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.5 to 5.8 have occurred in Karachi. The earthquakes in the city have been of minor to moderate intensity. Currently, minor tremors are being felt due to activity on the Landhi fault.
The Chief Meteorologist said that millions of such earthquakes occur around the world daily. The Landhi fault line is undergoing an adjustment process, and minor tremors like these will continue for about a week.
