The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) organized a significant seminar to mark World Oceans Day 2025, focused on promoting the sustainable conservation of marine resources, advancing the blue economy, and raising environmental awareness.
On this occasion, Captain DMPR read a special message from Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI(M), T Bt, highlighting the oceans’ vital role in sustainability, the global economy, food security, and ecological balance. The Admiral emphasized that ocean conservation is essential for the collective future of humanity.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Naseem-ur-Rehman, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Balochistan on Climate Change and Environment, underscored the need for national unity and policy-level initiatives to safeguard the marine environment.
The seminar began with welcome remarks by Commodore (Retd.) M. Masood Akram SI(M), S Bt, Director NIMA Karachi. International speakers from China and Thailand joined the event virtually, while leading Pakistani experts — including Dr. Asif Inam, Ms. Shagufta Iqbal, Muhammad Moazzam Khan, Dr. Ibrahim Zia, Dr. Waliullah Masroor, Dr. Samina Kidwai, and Mr. Syed Sajjad Hussain (COO, Telec Group) — shared insights on fisheries, the blue economy, climate change, and coastal tourism.
In his closing remarks, Vice Admiral (Retd.) Ahmed Saeed HI(M), President of NIMA, thanked all participants, experts, students, and partner organizations. He reaffirmed NIMA’s commitment to marine conservation, informed policy development, and youth engagement in Pakistan.
