Voting in a by-election for the Punjab Assembly (PA) seat in Sialkot, PP-52, has begun on Sunday morning and will continue until 5:00 pm.
The seat had become vacant following the death of MPA Chaudhry Arshad Javaid Warriach. As many as 15 candidates are contesting the election.
The key candidates are PTI-supported independent candidate Fakhir Nishat Ghumman, PML-N candidate Hina Arshad Warraich, and PPP candidate Raheel Kamran Cheema.
A total of 185 polling stations have been set up for the purpose. Out of these, 11 have been marked as highly sensitive, while 38 have been marked as sensitive.
The polling material, including ballot boxes, stamps, and stationery, was handed over to the presiding officers and transported to polling stations on Saturday.
Over 2,000 police and Elite Force personnel have been deployed across the constituency to ensure that the law and order situation is not disturbed.
A control room has been set up in the Punjab Election Commissioner’s office in Lahore, which is functional around the clock.
