The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has reversed its decision to double the fares of metro and electric buses in Islamabad following widespread public criticism.
Earlier, the CDA had announced that one-way fares on all 17 metro and electric bus routes in the capital would be raised from Rs 50 to Rs 100. The notification stated that a flat fare of Rs 100 would apply for all stops on buses operated by the CDA.
The fare hike, originally scheduled to take effect on May 26, was expected to affect over 90,000 daily commuters.
However, following widespread public criticism and negative reactions, the CDA took a U-turn and clarified that the fare hike was only a proposal under consideration. A CDA spokesperson denied any increase in the fares of Orange, Blue, Green, and electric buses and emphasized that no final decision has been made at this time.
The metro and electric feeder bus services continue to operate at the existing fare of Rs 50, and authorities said they would keep the public informed regarding any future changes.
