An emergency was declared after an oil tanker carrying 50,000 liters of crude oil overturned in the Landhi Number Four area, leading to a substantial spill.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. as the tanker was en route from Port Qasim to Korangi Crossing. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to overturn. Authorities have since arrested the driver and taken him into custody.
Roughly half of the crude oil was spilled onto the roadway, while the remaining quantity was successfully transferred to another tanker. Police and Rangers promptly arrived at the scene, cordoning off the area and evacuating nearby residents as a precautionary measure.
The incident has resulted in significant traffic disruptions, and emergency response teams are continuing to monitor the site to ensure public safety.
In a similar incident last year, a man lost his life when a fuel tank detached from a tanker and overturned on Karachi’s Baloch Colony flyover. The bridge was temporarily closed due to a kerosene leak, allowing rescue teams to carry out operations. The deceased was transported to a nearby hospital, and police launched an investigation into the matter.
