Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared May 16 (Friday) as Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to commemorate Pakistan’s resolute response to Indian aggression and the successful execution of Operation Bunyan-e-Marsous.
However, the government has not yet declared an official holiday for the occasion.
The day will serve as a national expression of gratitude to Allah Almighty, a tribute to the valor of the armed forces, and a recognition of the nation’s collective unity and resilience.
The observance will commence with recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers after Fajr across mosques nationwide.
A 31-gun salute will be presented in Islamabad, while 21-gun salutes will be conducted in all provincial capitals. Ceremonial changes of guard will take place at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal.
Flag-hoisting ceremonies are scheduled in both the federal and provincial capitals, accompanied by floral tributes at martyrs’ memorials across the country. Special prayer gatherings will be held in honor of the martyrs, and formal meetings will be arranged with their families to acknowledge their sacrifice.
The main event of Youm-e-Tashakur will be held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad on Friday night. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the chief guest, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the heads of the armed forces.
The ceremony will also be attended by prominent national figures, scholars, and representatives from diverse walks of life, underscoring the spirit of unity and national pride.
