Following a war prisoner exchange that took place between Pakistan and India today, rumors emerged that Pakistan has silently handed over the captured Rafale pilot Shivani Singh to India under international pressure; however, these rumors are false.
Earlier, the social media posts and videos claimed that Squadron Leader Shivani Singh, a female officer in the Indian Air Force, was taken into custody by Pakistani authorities.
However, in his media briefing on Sunday, May 11, Director General ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Choudhry had categorically denied the claim that Pakistan has arrested an Indian female pilot.
On the other hand Indian government had also rejected such claims. But people in Pakistan, particularly social media users, are still in doubt about the matter and are making different claims.
The new claim is that Pakistan has handed over the female fighter to India in today’s prisoner exchange, but no one has any solid proof for this, as this claim is completely baseless.
Today, Pakistan and India exchange two prisoners only. Each one handed over one prisoner to the other.
India released Abdulla of Punjab Rangers while Pakistan released Purnam Kumar Shaw, a constable of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
As per BSF, Purnam Kumar Shaw was handed over at about 10.30 am through the Joint Check Post in Attari, Amritsar. Shaw, who was detained by Pakistan since April 23, was sent back to India on Wednesday morning, the force said in a statement.
