An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Gujranwala has announced its verdict in the gun attack case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.
According to available information, the trial—related to the incident registered at Wazirabad City Police Station—concluded with the court sentencing the prime accused, Naveed, to two life imprisonments: one for terrorism and the other for the killing of citizen Moazzam.
Additionally, Naveed was ordered to pay a total fine of Rs 1.5 million.
Naveed was also handed prison sentences ranging from three to five years for injuring four others during the attack. However, all sentences will run concurrently.
Meanwhile, co-accused Waqas and Tayyab Jahangir Butt were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Advocate Imran Abbas Supraa stated that the prosecution failed to present any witnesses against Tayyab Jahangir Butt.
The incident took place on November 7, 2022, during PTI’s long march in Wazirabad, when Naveed opened fire, injuring Imran Khan and several other local leaders.
Tragically, citizen Moazzam lost his life in the shooting. Naveed was apprehended on the spot by the police.
