Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in higher education, with 47 universities securing spots in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025, highlighting the country’s growing academic presence in the region.
At the forefront, Quaid-i-Azam University continues to lead Pakistani institutions, securing a rank of 137, followed by National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) at 145 and COMSATS University Islamabad at 187.
A total of 47 Pakistani universities earned ranks across various tiers, reflecting significant progress. Notably, several universities including Government College University Faisalabad, Sukkur IBA, and UET Taxila ranked in the 201–250 bracket.
Meanwhile, another 47 institutions participated as “reporters,” indicating submission of data without meeting full eligibility for ranking.
The THE Asia University Rankings 2025 assessed 853 universities across 35 countries, based on 18 performance indicators covering teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
Pakistan now ties with Taiwan as the 14th most represented country globally and ranks 6th in Asia—a significant rise from 40 ranked institutions last year, 29 in 2023, and just 16 in 2021.
This continued growth demonstrates the expanding regional and international reputation of Pakistan’s higher education sector.
