The Punjab Home Department has announced a new initiative to strengthen law enforcement by equipping habitual offenders and individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule with electronic tracking devices.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Home Secretary Noor-ul-Amin Mengal.
This strategic move aims to enhance real-time surveillance and improve public safety across the province. Under the plan, electronic tracking bands will be used to monitor the movements of selected individuals continuously, enabling security agencies to maintain constant oversight.
In the first phase, 1,500 tracking devices will be distributed among key security departments. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) will receive 900 bands, the Crime Control Department will be allocated 500, and the Parole Department will receive 100.
These advanced tracking devices are designed to support round-the-clock monitoring, allowing law enforcement to detect any suspicious activity and respond promptly. By implementing this system, authorities hope to deter repeat offenses and ensure greater compliance among high-risk individuals.
The Home Department emphasized that this initiative is a vital step toward maintaining law and order and enhancing the operational efficiency of security agencies in Punjab.
