Never too late: Karachi’s Saeed Masood Usmani awarded PhD at 80

In a remarkable testament to perseverance and academic dedication, the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) has awarded a PhD degree to 80-year-old Saeed Masood Usmani from the Department of Mass Communication.

According to details, Dr. Usmani’s achievement is particularly inspiring, considering he overcame significant health challenges during his doctoral journey, including surviving four heart attacks and a stroke. His unwavering commitment to education and research, despite these obstacles, serves as a powerful example of lifelong learning and resilience.​

The degree was conferred during the 65th meeting of FUUAST’s Graduate and Research Management Council (GRMC) held on February 17, 2025. The GRMC is responsible for overseeing the university’s postgraduate programs and ensuring academic standards are met.

Dr. Usmani’s accomplishment adds to the university’s tradition of recognizing and celebrating academic excellence. In previous GRMC meetings, FUUAST has awarded numerous PhD degrees across various disciplines, reflecting its commitment to fostering advanced research and scholarship.
