ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the Supremacy of Parliament was the real face of democracy.
While conducting a media conference in Islamabad, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan appreciated all political parties for supporting the amendment in the Army Act.
Awan’s statement came when Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Mushahidullah Khan on Thursday announced on behalf of his party to support the army amendment act proposed by the Federal cabinet.
The Federal cabinet under the chair of Prime Minister Imran Khan gave approval of the amendment in the Army Act for extension in tenure of incumbent Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa earlier on Wednesday.
Under the proposed laws, the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Committee and the Army, Air would now be able to serve until they are 64 years old. Their normal tenure of service would still end when they are 60, but the President of Pakistan, on the advice of the prime minister, would have the prerogative to grant an extension to any of them at that time.
