NA to summon session over Army Amendment Act

ISLAMABAD: The meeting of the National Assembly over the bill of Army Amendment Act 2020 has been postponed till tomorrow.
Defence Minister Pervez Khan Khattak on Friday presented the bill of Army Amendment Act 2020 in the Senate. He also presented the Pakistan Air Force Act Amendment Bill 2020 and Pakistan Navy Amendment Bill 2020 in the House.
Earlier it was decided by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to support the federal government’s Army Amendment Bill in the Senate.
The Army Amendment) Bill highlights the appointment, reappointment or extension of the chief of the army staff (COAS) and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee cannot be challenged in any court of law.
According to an amendment, the maximum age limit for an army chief will be 64 years and this will be applied in case of extension in his term, but the regular age limit of COAS will be 60 years.
Moreover, Prime Minister Imran Khan will also attend the ongoing session of the National Assembly tomorrow.
Major updates were witnessed regarding the amendment earlier on Thursday as Law Minister Dr. Farogh Naseem decided to represent the petition filed by the federal government to the Supreme Court over the Army Amendment Act and PMLN party decided to support the incumbent government over it.
The amendment in the Army Act was approved on 1st January by the federal cabinet.
