KARACHI: A dramatic scene of chaos unfolded in the Sakhi Hassan area when a robber, in a desperate bid to escape arrest, climbed onto electric wires from an overhead bridge.
According to reports, the suspect was in the middle of robbing a food delivery rider when he spotted police officers approaching. In a panic, he bolted onto the overhead bridge and latched onto live electric wires, attempting to flee.
A crowd quickly gathered below, shouting at the suspect to come down, while police officers held up a large cloth to catch him in case he fell. The commotion led to a traffic jam in the area.
For several tense minutes, the robber dangled mid-air, trying to move forward despite warnings from onlookers about the risk of electrocution.
Realizing he had no escape route, he eventually lost his grip and plummeted—landing safely onto the police-held cloth, escaping injury.
The incident comes amid a surge in street crime during Ramadan, with five people losing their lives in just five days while resisting robberies. This has brought the robbery-related death toll to 18 so far this year.
Despite the worsening situation, police officials continue to claim that robbery cases in the city are on the decline.
