The US State Department’s spokesperson Tammy Bruce, in his first news briefing in Washington on Thursday, completely ignored a question about the incarcerated PTI leader Imran Khan.
As she set off her maiden news briefing with a welcome gesture to all the press corps present there, Tammy Bruce was asked “Is the President aware that the most popular leader of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has been in jail now for last two years? On this she did not reply, and kept her attention on other issues.
Imran Khan and his party were hopeful that Donald Trump would play a role for the release of Khan after reelecting the President, however, so far he has not shown interest in the matter of the incarcetaed PTI founder.
In her new briefing she thanked the Government of Pakistan for its assistance in arresting the person responsible for killing 13 US service members during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
“We extend our gratitude to the Government of Pakistan, we do, for their partnership in bringing Mohammad Sharifullah to justice,” she said.
Tammy Bruce added that the information about Sharifullah has been shared with the Department of Justice, adding that former president Joe Biden mishandled the Afghanistan withdrawal.
“President Trump will continue the “America First” policy, and efforts are being made to end the Russia-Ukraine war,” she said, adding that Marco Rubio is enthusiastic about advancing the President’s foreign policy.
In a separate press briefing, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt said that Sharifullah admitted to his crimes to Pakistani authorities first and later to the US officials who visited Pakistan to bring him to the US. She added that Sharifullah also confessed to carrying out attacks in Afghanistan, Iran, and Russia.
