A settlement has been reached in the high-profile Boat Basin assault case in Karachi, where armed men in a vehicle attacked civilians.
Speaking to Aaj News, victim Barkat Soomro revealed that he had forgiven the attackers for the sake of Allah, emphasizing that his decision was made in good faith. He expressed gratitude to Aaj News for bringing attention to the incident.
Soomro explained that his parents and elders engaged in talks with the opposing party, ultimately leading to a reconciliation. The negotiations were attended by prominent political figures, including Mir Nadir Magsi, Nawab Gazain Mari, Saeed Ghani, and Nasir Hussain Shah.
According to Soomro, the accused admitted their mistake and even offered to pay a fine, but he chose to forgive them instead.
Meanwhile, South Police stated that they became aware of the settlement through media reports but have yet to receive any official legal confirmation. Authorities have affirmed that if Shahzain Mari, one of the accused, is found in Karachi, he will be arrested, and the case will proceed to court.
The brutal assault occurred on February 19 at Boat Basin, where Shahzain Mari and his armed guards allegedly attacked Soomro and his friend without any apparent reason, sparking public outrage.
