Set in 1930s Kansas City—a time of Prohibition, mob rule, and lively jazz clubs—the film follows police lieutenant Speer (Clint Eastwood) and former cop-turned-private investigator Mike Murphy (Burt Reynolds). Once close friends on the force, they are now bitter rivals. However, when Murphy’s partner is murdered, the two must put aside their differences and join forces to take on the mob.
