The leaders of lawyers in Islamabad have said that the recent transfers of judges are based on division within the judiciary and ill intentions. Lawyers will strongly oppose this process, and tomorrow at 11 AM, they are going to hold a nationwide convention at the District Court G-11.
According to a report by Express News on Sunday, officials of the Islamabad Bar Council, Islamabad High Court Bar Association, and District Bar Association held a joint press conference.
Chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council, Advocate Aleem Abbasi, while speaking, said that all representatives of Islamabad High Court District and High Court are present in today’s meeting. The purpose of this emergency press conference is to announce that the Ministry of Law transferred three judges to Islamabad. In today’s meeting, it was decided that the lawyer community rejects these transfers.
He stated that these transfers are based on division within the judiciary and ill intentions, and lawyers will strongly oppose this process. Tomorrow at 11 AM, they are going to hold a nationwide convention at the District Court G-11.
He also said that tomorrow in Islamabad, lawyers will announce a complete strike. No lawyer will appear in any court, and he has appealed to lawyers across Pakistan to support them. They are also appealing to the provincial bar councils to join them in tomorrow’s protest.
Advocate Aleem Abbasi said that all lawyers’ communities in Pakistan will be affected by this. They demand that all Bar Associations and Bar Councils across the country support them, and they also condemn the Judicial Commission meeting scheduled for February 10.
He said that the Judicial Commission meeting was also called with ill intentions, and all petitions against the 26th constitutional amendment should be heard immediately.
Advocate Aleem Abbasi further stated that the Supreme Court’s 16-member full court should first decide on the constitutional amendment. The meeting on February 10 is based on ill intentions and should be immediately canceled. This is not just a lawyers’ fight; it is a fight for the rule of law and judicial independence in the country.
He said that they do not trust these political parties or the people involved. The lawyers’ struggle against the 26th constitutional amendment should continue, and they want to make the current government and its alliance aware, along with the establishment.
He mentioned that after the constitutional amendment, the appointment of judges should be reviewed. In the Sindh High Court, all the political loyalists have been appointed, and the same will happen in the Lahore High Court.
President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Riyasat Ali Azad, said that the strike and convention are our unanimous decision. Why are the 15th-ranked judge of the Lahore High Court and the 12th-ranked judge from Balochistan being brought here? The justice these judges provided there, two hundred thousand cases are pending in the Lahore High Court.
