The government of Balochistan has suspended cellular and mobile internet services in Quetta, the provincial capital, for two days citing security concerns.
This decision follows a suicide attack on a Frontier Corps (FC) convoy in the Kech district, which killed five soldiers and injured several others.
The attack was claimed by the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a prominent militant group responsible for numerous attacks that claimed over 100 lives in the province in 2024.
“The provincial home department requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend mobile services in Quetta,” said Deputy Commissioner Saad bin Asad. He confirmed the two-day suspension but did not disclose the specific nature of the threats.
Balochistan experienced a significant surge in militant activities in 2024, with attacks increasing by 41%. Official data reveals that nearly 300 people lost their lives in 564 incidents, with 44% of these targeting Pakistani security forces.
