Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a major protest in Islamabad, calling it a “million march,” scheduled for December 29.
The march aims to address Pakistan’s worsening economic and political situation, as stated by JI Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman during a press conference.
Rehman openly criticized the country’s current state, comparing it to the challenges faced by Syria under Bashar al-Assad’s regime, where people were stripped of their rights. He argued that Pakistan’s wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few influential individuals, creating severe economic inequality that continues to grow.
Taking aim at the recent rise in the stock market, Rehman labeled it a “fake rally,” claiming it benefits only the big players.
He explained how investments are redirected to the stock exchange after interest rates are lowered, distorting the real picture of the economy. According to him, this is not the first time such manipulation has occurred.
Rehman also shed light on the dire situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, where the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been in power for the last 17 years. He criticized the party for failing to improve basic services, leaving the people of Karachi to struggle with poor infrastructure and other issues.
The December 29 protest highlights JI’s concerns about Pakistan’s future, calling for immediate changes to address inequality and improve governance.
