Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall in Tamil Nadu on the afternoon of November 30, with wind speeds reaching up to 90 km per hour.
Indian authorities have issued a cyclone warning for north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and south Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone, which developed on Friday, is predicted to cross the coast between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram as a cyclonic storm with winds of 70-80 km/h, gusting up to 90 km/h, on Saturday afternoon.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai reported that the deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, which moved north-northwest at 13 km/h over the past six hours, intensified into Cyclone Fengal at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 29. At the time, the storm was located approximately 310 km north-northeast of Trincomalee, 260 km east of Nagapattinam, 270 km east-southeast of Puducherry, and 300 km southeast of Chennai.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to extremely heavy rain in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore districts, and Puducherry on Saturday. There is also a forecast of heavy rain in isolated areas of Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, and Karaikal.
