The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that discussions are ongoing to resolve uncertainties surrounding next year’s Champions Trophy.
During a brief 15-minute virtual meeting, the ICC urged all involved parties to find a solution that would ensure the smooth running of the tournament, following India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, the host nation.
The meeting, which began at 4 PM IST, was attended by 12 full ICC members, three associate members, and the ICC Chair, totaling 16 voting members.
A source quoted by AFP commented, “The Board met briefly today. All parties are continuing to work towards a positive resolution for the 2025 Champions Trophy, and the Board is expected to reconvene in the coming days.”
Pakistan has reportedly remained steadfast in rejecting a hybrid model, which would see India’s matches played at a neutral venue. India has refused to travel to Pakistan, citing security concerns.
The ICC is working to finalize both the schedule and venue for the Champions Trophy. With less than three months until the tournament is set to begin, the fixtures have yet to be announced, causing delays.
Meanwhile, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Friday that, due to ongoing “security concerns” in Pakistan, it is unlikely the Indian team will participate in the event in Pakistan.
Pakistan was granted the hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy in November 2021, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already started renovations on three of its stadiums in preparation.
