Police suspect that Mohamed Al Fayed may have raped and abused at least 111 women and girls over nearly four decades, with the youngest alleged victim reportedly being just 13 years old.
The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between 1977 and 2014. Investigators have reviewed more than 50,000 pages of evidence and retrieved substantial archived materials, according to police reports.
Scotland Yard has revealed that five unnamed individuals are under investigation for potentially acting as “facilitators” for Fayed, the former Harrods owner who passed away last year at the age of 94.
The Metropolitan Police is also examining whether earlier investigations failed to act on opportunities to prosecute Fayed and is assessing claims of historical police corruption linked to the case.
The allegations involve 21 victims who reported crimes between 2005 and Fayed’s death, as well as 90 others who came forward following a BBC documentary aired in September, police said.
A Met spokesperson stated: “The Metropolitan Police is committed to thoroughly reviewing all information related to the historical allegations against Mohamed Al Fayed. This includes our Directorate of Professional Standards evaluating any indications of police misconduct.”
