Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, the Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning, and Development has announced that the Sindh government is launching its own Solarization Program, which aims to provide solar panels to 500,000 households.
According to a report by Urdu Point on Tuesday, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah directed the Deputy Commissioners of Sukkur, Ghotki, and Khairpur, along with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO) and the non-governmental organization HANDS, to lead the efforts, noting that flood victims, being a vulnerable group, may not be in a position to raise complaints or file FIRs themselves.
The minister made these remarks during a meeting at the Commissioner’s Office in Sukkur, which focused on both the Peoples Housing and Solarization Programs. He emphasized that the reconstruction of homes for flood victims is a key priority of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. While other provinces also experienced major flood damage, house reconstruction has only begun in Sindh, as per the instructions of Chairman Bhutto Zardari.
He added that the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and other cabinet members are working to implement the Chairman’s vision. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasized the importance of providing ownership through the Peoples Housing Program.
Shah clarified that funding for the program is not an issue, citing delays caused by the non-opening of bank accounts for flood victims. He assured that the Sindh government had already released its portion of the funds in the first year of the program, and that donor agencies had also contributed.
The Provincial Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that women are granted land ownership rights without delay, and that there should be no barriers in this process. He also emphasized the need for coordination with elected representatives at the district, town, and union council levels regarding the Peoples Housing Program.
Regarding the Solarization Program, Shah announced that it would launch next month. He revealed that data from 200,000 households had already been collected through the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). Developed in partnership with the World Bank, the solar panel initiative aims to benefit 10 districts in Sindh.
