Over 1,250 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members, including National and Provincial Assembly members, were arrested while heading to Islamabad from Multan to participate in a protest.
According to sources from ARY News, the PTI march was set to begin outside a private hotel in Multan, heading toward Islamabad, when the police raided the location and arrested several members of the National and Provincial Assemblies.
Among those arrested were leaders such as Zain Qureshi, Aamir Dogar, Nadeem Qureshi, Waseem Badozai, Moeenuddin Qureshi, and Rana Tufail Noon. In addition to these leaders, over 200 workers were also detained outside a hotel near Qadir Puran. The total number of arrests in the Multan Division has now reached 1,257.
Furthermore, PTI Member of National Assembly (MNA) Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan and 16 workers were arrested in Chichawatni, while seven PTI workers were detained in Sheikhupura. Ahead of today’s protest, all routes to and from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi have been completely blocked.
According to the report, PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, had called for today’s protest. In response, all major roads, including in Islamabad and other cities, have been blocked, and all routes leading to Adiala Jail have been sealed to prevent any access.
The Rawalpindi administration has closed the main Adiala Road for all traffic, and containers have been placed along the routes leading to the jail. In addition, markets on Adiala Road have been shut down. The road closures and barriers have caused significant difficulties for local residents in the area.
Police officials have stated that no protests will be allowed around Adiala Jail and that these measures are necessary to maintain peace and order. It is noteworthy that Imran Khan had announced the protest and instructed party leaders and workers to continue demonstrating at D-Chowk in Islamabad until their demands are met.
PTI leaders have asserted that the protests will continue until Imran Khan’s release. They also demand the return of the stolen mandate of February 8 and the abolition of the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
