Pakistan has reported over 20,000 dengue cases during the current year of 2024, as reported by national media citing their sources.
The report mentions that at least 10 people have lost their lives due to dengue from January to November 15th, while NIH sources informed the media that Sindh and Gilgit-Baltistan have not yet shared data regarding dengue cases, raising concerns among the public.
In terms of the distribution of dengue cases, Balochistan remains at the top with 6,958 cases, followed by Punjab with 5,405 cases and 8 deaths. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) reported 3,649 cases this year with 2 deaths.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir reported 245 dengue cases this year, while FATA recorded 46 cases. The federal capital registered 3,754 dengue cases, indicating significant challenges for citizens due to the severity of the fever and the associated death risks.
Experts recommend wearing long sleeves, using repellents to avoid mosquito bites, and avoiding outdoor activities after sunset. They also advise steering clear of areas with standing water, overgrown grass, and garbage piles, and seeking medical advice rather than self-medicating.
