The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has laid out four key demands that it says must be met in order to conclude its upcoming protest movement, which is set to take place in the last week of November. The protests are being organized to call for the “restoration” of democracy and judiciary in Pakistan.
On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated, announced plans for a “final march” towards Islamabad, set for November 24. He also revealed a detailed protest strategy and formed a committee to facilitate negotiations to end the demonstrations.
The committee, established by PTI founder Imran Khan, will oversee the protest movement and is authorized to lead talks with the government. Any PTI members who wish to engage in dialogue with the authorities will be required to do so through this committee.
The four key demands presented by PTI are:
- Repeal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment
- Restoration of the Constitution to its original form
- Return of the ‘stolen mandate’
- Release of political prisoners held without trial
Omar Ayub, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, emphasized that the supremacy of the Constitution and law was the party’s foremost demand. He also called for the immediate release of all individuals, including Imran Khan, who he said had been wrongfully imprisoned under fabricated charges.
“We demand that all political prisoners, including Imran Khan, be released,” Ayub said, also stressing the need for new general elections to restore democratic processes.
The PTI leadership clarified that the party was not seeking personal relief but rather systemic reforms. “Relief will come automatically when these conditions are met,” Ayub stated.
