According to unofficial results, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) emerged as the dominant force in the Karachi local government by-elections, securing 10 out of the 11 contested seats.
The PPP’s victories included:
- Four chairman seats: Malir, Korangi, Landhi, and Model Colony.
- One vice-chairman seat: Landhi.
- Four councilor seats: Liaquatabad, Malir, Clifton, and Ibrahim Hyderi.
- One seat on the cantonment board is Korangi Creek.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) secured the following:
- One vice-chairman seat: Gulberg.
- One councilor seat: Manghopir.
An independent candidate also won a seat in the cantonment board elections.
In total, 388 candidates contested the elections across 42 seats in Karachi and other parts of Sindh. Of the 11 seats in Karachi, PPP claimed victory in 9, with JI and an independent candidate winning the remaining 2 seats.
The by-elections, which took place across 18 districts of Sindh, saw a total of 388 candidates contesting 42 seats. The remaining 31 seats had been won unopposed. In Karachi, a total of 85 candidates vied for positions, while the rest of Sindh had 303 candidates competing. Some seats remained vacant due to incorrect documentation from candidates.
The election was marked by a low voter turnout, with some wards experiencing exceptionally low participation. For instance, in Manghopir, only 4.39% of the voters cast ballots, while in other areas, the PPP’s victory margins were far higher.
