An Iranian hacker group known as Hanzala claims to have accessed the personal phones of former Israeli officials, including ex-Defense Minister Benny Gantz and retired IDF Lt. Col. Adi Sabag.
According to a media report published in Daily Ausaf on Tuesday, the hackers allege they acquired and released sensitive videos and images, including footage of Sabag dancing at a social event and Gantz allegedly involved in an affair with a secretary linked to Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The group also asserts that sensitive information related to Netanyahu was leaked during this alleged affair. Israeli authorities have yet to confirm the authenticity of the leaked materials. This cyber-attack highlights escalating cyber tensions between Iran and Israel.
Destructive Israel-Iran Relations
This cyber-attack highlights the escalating cyber and military tensions between Iran and Israel, both of which have engaged in cyber warfare and direct attacks in recent years. Israel has conducted airstrikes against Iranian targets in Syria, aiming to disrupt Iran’s influence and military presence near its borders. Iran, in response, has reportedly increased cyber operations targeting Israeli infrastructure, government networks, and financial systems, aiming to retaliate and undermine Israeli security.
The recent hacking incident underscores how the conflict between the two nations has expanded from military encounters to sophisticated cyber operations, with each side attempting to expose vulnerabilities and influence public perception. The cyber-attack marks another intensification in the Iran-Israel rivalry, adding a new layer to their longstanding conflict in the digital sphere as well as on the ground.
