The Punjab government has expanded its Free Wi-Fi project, significantly improving internet access across various cities.
According to a spokesperson from the Punjab Safe City Authority, free Wi-Fi is now available at over 230 locations in Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura.
Since the expansion began on June 16, within just three months, 7.7 million users have utilized 111 TB of data, with an average service availability of 98.7 percent. The Safe City Authority spokesperson highlighted that this free internet service is supporting education, business, and social connections.
“We are transforming Punjab into a digital province, and the free Wi-Fi initiative is a crucial step towards that goal. Citizens are using the service to simplify their daily lives,” the spokesperson added.
Initially, the project launched in Lahore at 50 locations as a pilot initiative. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) first introduced free Wi-Fi services in Lahore and other cities during its 2013 government, but the service was later discontinued by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during its tenure.
