The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning on Thursday regarding a potential cyclone forming over the Rann of Kutch in India, expected to impact Sindh’s coastal areas tonight or by early morning.
The deep depression has been gradually moving west/southwest for the past 12 hours and is currently situated approximately 270 kilometers east/southeast of Karachi, according to a PMD alert released at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The Met Office indicated that favorable environmental conditions could lead to the system intensifying into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow.
As a result, widespread rain and thunderstorms, along with isolated heavy rainfall, are anticipated to persist until August 31. The affected regions include the Karachi division and districts such as Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
PMD warned that sea conditions are likely to be quite rough, with winds reaching 50 to 60 km/hour, advising fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea until August 31.
Earlier this week, a powerful weather system caused a windstorm and heavy rainfall in Karachi, disrupting daily life and damaging infrastructure, following a previous rain spell late on Monday night.
