Islamabad: The Senate Committee on Information Technology has summoned a report on the losses incurred due to slow internet speeds.
According to details, a meeting of the Senate’s Information Technology Committee was held under the chairmanship of Senator Palwasha Khan. Committee members raised concerns and asked various questions regarding the slowdown and outages of social media apps and the internet.
During the discussion, Senator Humayun Mohmand stated that the slow internet and social media apps are affecting businesses. Senator Afnan Ullah mentioned that the slow internet speed has caused a loss of at least 500 million rupees.
The Secretary of Information Technology, during the meeting, stated that the services of mobile operators have been disrupted. The technical issue will be resolved as soon as possible. The Senate Committee has requested a report on the losses caused by social media apps and the internet.
The Senate Committee also directed the officials to resolve the issues related to social media and the internet within two weeks. It is worth noting that while online connectivity has returned to normal globally, internet disruptions continue in Pakistan.
The public is facing difficulties due to frequent interruptions in mobile apps. Download speeds have significantly slowed down. Previously, on July 31, PTCL’s internet system also went down, severely impacting internet service.
