Pakistan’s recent digital census has revealed that the number of unmarried individuals in the country has reached a record 42.5 million. People younger than 15 years are not included in this count.
According to the census report, the number of unmarried people increased by approximately 5.2 million over the last six years. In 2017, the count of unmarried individuals stood at 37.3 million.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics report indicates that Punjab has the highest number of unmarried individuals at 23.6 million, followed by Sindh with 9.586 million, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 6.672 million, and Balochistan with 2.181 million. Islamabad’s count of unmarried individuals is 486,000.
The report further states that the number of married people in the country is 94.5 million, marking an increase of 1.42 million over the past six years.
Regarding marital status changes, the census shows a decrease in the number of divorced and widowed women. Currently, there are 499,000 divorced women in the country, down from 515,000 in 2017.
The Bureau of Statistics compiled this report based on data for individuals aged 15 years and above.
