Riyadh: Over 100 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia on charges of drug smuggling, including two Pakistanis.
According to a report by the private TV channel Dawn News, Saudi Arabia has executed two more individuals on charges of drug smuggling, bringing the total number of executions this year to at least 106, including two Pakistanis.
The report states that the official Saudi Press Agency released a statement from the Ministry of Interior, which said that a Saudi citizen was executed for smuggling amphetamines, while a Pakistani citizen was executed for smuggling heroin.
It is worth noting that Saudi authorities resumed executions for drug-related crimes at the end of 2022 after a nearly three-year hiatus. Of the 106 executions carried out so far, seven individuals were beheaded for involvement in drug-related crimes.
Earlier, in 2023, authorities executed at least 170 individuals, including 33 convicted of terrorism-related crimes. By this time last year, at least 74 individuals had been executed in Saudi Arabia.
