Sindh Police on Monday deployed a bomb disposal robot at the Muharram 9 procession in an effort to improve the security of the mourning processions during Muharram in Karachi.
According to a police official, the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robot aids in defusing hazardous devices without requiring a human to physically handle them. The operator of the remote-controlled vehicle can locate and neutralize a bomb from a safe distance.
Meanwhile, the government has identified various areas across Punjab where mobile phone service will be unavailable on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
The Interior Ministry has recommended not to suspend the service completely in any city. According to the ministry spokesperson, mobile service will be partially suspended in most districts of Punjab from 8 am to 10 pm on these dates. However, the service will remain active in Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Khushab, and Chakwal.
Similarly, mobile service will not be suspended in Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Vehari, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, Chiniot, Gujranwala, Narowal, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar, Mandi Bahauddin, Wazirabad, Rajanpur, Faisalabad, and Bahawalnagar. The service will only be partially suspended in Hafizabad.
