There is a whole world hidden behind the Bollybood backstage and Showtime offers viewers an exclusive look at the challenges actors encounter behind the scenes. Part 2 of the Emraan Hashmi-starring series returns after the first part’s massive success.
Created by Sumit Roy and showrunner Mihir Desai, and directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar, the series features Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Shriya Saran, Vijay Raaz, and Vishal Vashishtha in pivotal roles. All episodes of Showtime will stream on Disney+ Hotstar starting July 12th.
Founder and Managing Director of Dharmatic Entertainment Karan Johar said that Showtime story showcased the characters’ real lives, their vulnerabilities, and the internal struggles they faced in the world of showbiz.
“From Raghu’s redemption to power-packed performances by Mouni Roy and Mahima Makwana, Showtime will tell a strong story and leave audiences wanting more. We couldn’t have had a better partner than Disney+ Hotstar and are eager to bring this to the masses,” he added.
According to Hashmi, “there is that bit of Succession, though that is about legacy news channels and the bloodline.”
“Will the children uphold their father’s legacy? That raises the issue of entitlement in our industry. It’s a full case of entitlement,” Hashmi says “Numerous factors are involved, yet there are certain nepotistic offspring who succeed and carry on the tradition. It’s quite sad when nepotistic children fail to carry on that tradition.”
Hashmi notes the “father-son dynamic” dictates how his character arc plays out, with their clash of ideologies and differing generational ideas on what moviemaking looks like.
