Swat Police have made significant strides in the investigation of the Swat lynching case, with the arrest of nine additional suspects, including three key individuals: Yasir, Ghufran, and Qari Inaam-ur-Rehman. This brings the total number of arrests in connection with the incident to 30.
Efforts to apprehend the remaining named suspects are ongoing. “We are committed to apprehending all those involved in this incident, including those who are still evading capture,” stated the DPO of Swat. “There will be no leniency for those who took the law into their own hands.”
The DPO further assured that the identities of all unidentified individuals involved in the incident have been established, and they will soon face justice.
On June 20, a mob in Madyan, Swat, brutally killed a man after rumors spread that he had desecrated the holy Quran. Despite being in police custody, the mob dragged him out of the station, beat him to death, and set fire to his body, the police station, and a police vehicle. Swat DPO Dr. Zahidullah reported that eight people were injured during the chaos.
Locals recounted that the violence began when announcements in a market accused the man of blasphemy, leading to his arrest. Subsequent announcements from mosques further inflamed the situation, prompting an angry crowd to march to the police station. When the police refused to hand over the suspect, the mob forced their way inside, causing police officials to flee for their safety.
The suspect, a tourist from Sialkot, was staying at a local hotel and did not belong to Swat.
