Over 1,200 people were hospitalized in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during Eidul Adha due to overeating meat.
In Peshawar alone, 610 gastroenteritis cases were reported within 24 hours, with most attributed to excessive meat consumption, according to Mohammad Asim, spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital.
In Punjab, hospitals treated 2,200 patients, including 180 cases related to gastroenteritis, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Several hundred individuals were rushed to hospitals with similar complaints. Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital treated over 130 patients, while Services Hospital, Ganga Ram Hospital, and Mayo Hospital each admitted more than 100 patients.
Gastroenterologists have advised the public to consume Qurbani meat in moderation and avoid overeating during the festivities.
