KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced new routes for the People’s Bus Service in Karachi.
Chairing a meeting, Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon addressed Karachi’s transport issues by introducing additional routes for the service.
The meeting, which included elected MPAs from Karachi, the deputy mayor, and other officials, decided to launch new routes in Malir, Kemari, Lyari, and District West. One of the new routes will run from Numaish to Hawkes Bay.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating city residents by expanding the public transport network. In a previous meeting of the transport department, the minister received a detailed briefing on the construction of various BRTs, traffic signals, the reconstruction of bus terminals, and the creation of a U-turn for the People’s Bus Service.
Last month, the Automated Fare Collection System for the People’s Bus Service was launched. The Sindh transport department organized the launch ceremony at a local hotel, highlighting the prepaid card’s features such as contactless payment, reloadable balance, and compatibility with various transit systems. Initially, this system has been installed on buses running from Model Colony to Tower and from Gulshan-i-Hadeed to Tower.
