Barcelona has parted ways with manager Xavi Hernandez, as announced by the LaLiga club on Friday. Former Bayern Munich and Germany boss Hansi Flick is set to step in as his replacement.
The decision marks the conclusion of months-long disputes between Barca and Xavi, who boasts a remarkable legacy with 767 appearances as a midfielder for the Spanish giants, contributing to their triumph in 25 major trophies.
“Today, Friday, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has conveyed to Xavi Hernandez that he will not continue as the first-team coach for the 2024-25 season,” stated Barcelona in an official release.
“Barcelona expresses gratitude to Xavi for his coaching tenure, along with his unparalleled career as a player and team captain, and extends wishes for his continued success in his future endeavors.”
Barcelona is poised to secure the second position in LaLiga, trailing champions Real Madrid by at least nine points. Xavi had earlier announced his intention to step down at the conclusion of this season in January.
As per reports from Sky in Germany, Barcelona has verbally agreed with Flick to take up the coaching role. The club intends to formally announce Xavi’s replacement in the coming days.
