ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, along with other party leaders, acquitted on Monday by a district and sessions court in two vandalism cases related to the long march.
Khan’s lawyer, Naeem Panjotha, told journalists in the federal capital that the cases against Khan were driven by political vengeance.
“No evidence of vandalism was found against the PTI founder during the long march,” Panjotha stated, noting that the Islamabad administration had not issued any notification to enforce Section 144 in the city.
Panjotha further mentioned that multiple cases of a similar nature had been registered against Khan, and he has been acquitted in several of them.
Other acquitted party leaders include Zartaj Gul, Ali Nawaz Awan, Faisal Javed, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Qasim Suri, Raja Khurram Nawaz, Shireen Mazari, Saifullah Niazi, Asad Umar, and Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad. The cases, registered at the Kohsar and Karachi Company police stations, involved violations of Section 144.
The court’s decision came during the hearing of acquittal pleas filed by Khan and the other leaders. Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khan issued the verdict on the acquittal of Khan, Qureshi, Rashid, Awan, Suri, and Nawaz for the case registered at Kohsar police station.
