The German embassy in Pakistan has announced that it will open the student visa registration list on May 21 for students holding admission letters from universities for the winter semester of 2024-2025.
In an update on its website, the embassy stated that it will stop providing appointments to students with admission letters for the summer semester 2024 at the end of May. Admission letters for bachelor’s or master’s studies for the summer semester of 2024 dated after May 15 will be automatically canceled, and affected students will receive an email notification.
Due to a high volume of applications, the embassy has not been able to fulfill all appointments for the summer semester of 2024. Students with visas for bachelor’s and master’s programs who have received unconditional direct admission letters from German universities will face longer wait times for appointments. Currently, the waiting period for study preparation applicants is approximately 12 months.
The embassy will prioritize applicants with scholarships from German institutions and PhD students. Additionally, there is an exclusive online registration category called “Registration to Apply for a Master’s Program” for students with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.7 or above, who will also receive prioritized consideration.
The required documents for visa application include an application form, a biometric picture, copies of the passport and ID, an applicant declaration, an appointment confirmation email, information about any previous visa refusals, a curriculum vitae, an admission letter, an enrollment certificate, confirmation of sufficient language skills in the language of instruction, proof of financial means, and health insurance. Applicants must also provide evidence of a blocked account, a scholarship grant, or an official commitment issued by the immigration office in Germany. If the semester has already started, they need to show an enrollment certificate with a letter from the university confirming their late start.
For Schengen visas, the embassy has implemented a waiting list system to manage the high demand for appointments. The visa prices for Pakistani applicants at the time of submission are as follows:
- Schengen visa / Short-term visa (cat. “C”): 80€ (in PKR)
- Schengen visa for children aged 6 to 12: 40€ (in PKR)
- Airport transit visa (cat. “A”): 80€ (in PKR)
- National German Long Term Visa (cat. “D”): 75€ (in PKR)
- Children aged 0-17 for family reunions: 37.50€ (in PKR)
- Spouses/children of EU citizens: exempt from visa fees
