Harvard Business School has turned its attention to Pakistan’s enduring challenges, with the infamous “Nazuk Mor” serving as a focal point for analysis. The case study, titled “Pakistan at 75: When Will the ‘Nazuk Mor’ End?”, forms part of Professor Alberto Cavallo’s curriculum for the Business, Government, and the International Economy course in the Spring 2024 semester.
Circulating in WhatsApp groups, the study delves into Pakistan’s persistent issues of political instability, government interference, corruption, and economic volatility.
With Pakistan celebrating its 75th year of independence in 2023, and little change evident in 2024, the nation continues to grapple with familiar woes, including reliance on IMF bailouts, struggling state-owned enterprises, and high inflation. Despite the February 2024 elections, the formation of a new government with uneasy alliances suggests ongoing challenges in decision-making.
Authored by Harvard Business School Professor Meg Rithmire, alongside Salaar A. Shaikh (MBA Class of 2023), and Hong Zhang (Post-Doctoral Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School), the study underscores the significance of real-life examples, such as Pakistan’s “Nazuk Mor,” in business education.
