LAHORE: Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim clarified that discussions regarding his potential return to the national team did not occur with Pakistan’s T20I captain Shaheen Shah Afridi during his stint in the International League T20 (ILT20).
Imad Wasim offered advice to Shaheen Afridi, urging him to prioritize Pakistan’s interests over impulsive emotions, emphasizing this stance in an interview with a local news outlet.
Describing Shaheen Afridi as akin to a younger brother, Imad expressed his counsel for him to consider what aligns best with Pakistan’s welfare. He emphasized the availability of knowledgeable advisors surrounding Shaheen.
During the interview, the 35-year-old cricketer reflected on Pakistan’s recent T20I series against New Zealand, where they faced a 4-1 defeat. He highlighted the commendable consistency in Babar Azam’s performance, which led to a favorable batting position despite his nominal third spot.
Furthermore, Imad acknowledged Shaheen Afridi’s strategic initiatives in experimenting with various opening pairs, suggesting it would be prudent to continue exploring different combinations in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket last year, concluding an illustrious eight-year career. Despite his retirement from international play, he remains active in league cricket, currently representing the Abu Dhabi Night Riders in the ILT20 alongside his stint with the Desert Vipers.
