In a complaint, the city of San Francisco says they have visited the headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter twice since Friday regarding the new flashing “X” sign on top of the building.
Owner Elon Musk rebranded Twitter and its iconic bird logo as X last week. He tweeted video of the building with the new flashing “X” logo on Saturday saying, “Our HQ in San Francisco tonight.”

The city began an investigation into the sign last week, saying the company failed to obtain the permits required to follow design and safety protocols, according to the Associated Press.
Any replacement signage requires a permit to ensure “consistency with the historic nature of the building” and to make sure the signage is safely attached, Patrick Hannan, spokesperson for the Department of Building Inspection, said last week.
It should be noted that the “X” headquarters is located in downtown San Francisco, a few blocks away from its City Hall.
