The rising popularity of the South Korean series ‘King the Land’ has taken over Netflix’s Global Top 10 list.
With every new episode, the Lee Junho and Yoona starrer drama becomes the most-watched non-English TV show worldwide.
The show follows Gu Won, a wealthy heir of the luxurious King Hotel slowly but gradually falls for Sa-rang, a King Hotel’s beautiful and hardworking hotelier.
However, where viewers are in awe of the leading characters’ blossoming chemistry, they are still furious to know about the show’s biggest mysteries: who is Gu Won’s mother?

- Gu Won does not have the same mother as his older sister, Hwa-ran.
- His mother disappeared when he was very young.
- He could not remember her face or what she looked like.
- Even his own father does not tell him about his mother.
Now we have different theories and possibilities of who Gu Won’s mother is and one of them is Gu Won’s sister, Hwa-ran.
The drama viewers can’t help but notice while watching the drama that Gu Won’s sister who seems to be in a one-sided beef with Gu Won to succeed their father as Chairman of King Hotel looks significantly older than him, old enough to be his mother.
When Gu Won looks at the hotel’s personnel record for the year 1989 (presumably when he was born). Assuming that would make Hwa-ran nearly 50 years old.
Taking their ages into account, it’s possible that Hwa-ran could have given birth to Gu Won when she was around 15 or 16 years old, in which case the Chairman would actually be Gu Won’s grandfather.
Why would Gu Won’s mother keep her identity hidden?Â
Well, the reasoning isn’t hard to guess: let’s suppose Hwa-ran is the mother of Gu Wonthen she might have given birth to him as a teenager out of wedlock. This would have brought shame and scandal to a high-profile chaebol family like theirs and potentially disrupted Hwa-ran’s future success.
Being a man and an established, successful businessman, Il-hun would have been far more equipped to whether a scandal like having a child out of wedlock than his daughter, so he may have pretended to be Gu Won’s father to save Hwa-ran from ‘ruin’.
However, these are just the possible theories made by the fans about the mysterious mother and her disappearance from Gu Won’s life. The drama which consists of 16 episodes will air its 9th and 10th episodes this week on Saturday and Sunday.
